Hunter turns FOUR

Not sure how this happened, but Hunter has gone from looking like a toddler to looking like a full-on-KID. Happy 4th birthday, sweet Hunter!
We celebrated Hunter's birthday at the beach. He loves to play in the sand and in the ocean, so what better way to celebrate your birthday?
We love you so much Hunter and love watching you grow. These days you like playing legos, puzzles, building with magna tiles, tracing your letters, digging in the dirt, telling Wyatt what to do, and you like riding your bike.
We are stilllll on the waitlist for preschool, so fingers cross we can get Hunter in as soon as possible. We know he is ready and will do great. It is hard to believe that technically next year at this time we could have a kindergartner!

Hunter turns 3!

Happy 3rd birthday to our first baby boy! Can't believe you are already three years old.
Leading up to his birthday, if you asked Hunter how old he was going to be, he would say "#3 August" haha.
Hunter is still a pretty easy kid in general. He is showing signs of the threenager stage, which is to be expected, but overall he is a good kid with a sweet nature. We are noticing he has: more opinions, whines about random little things, isn't napping as well as he used to, likes to do things himself, prefers riding his bike to riding in the stroller, and tests his boundaries with us. Even so, he is getting easier to reason with, as his vocabulary is exploding and we can communicate more than we could when he was two.
Hunter has been going to daycare on Fridays for a couple months and we all love it. He is making friends and is able to do some activities outside of the house and separate from Wyatt, which is nice. We are adding on Mondays and he will start going twice a week next Monday - yay! Also, both boys are going to start going to Gramie and Pop Pop's house every Wednesday and the boys can't wait! This will be a big help for me as well, as I am getting more and more pregnant keeping these two busy all day is becoming difficult. Hunter also started swimming twice a week. Now that he is three he qualifies for sports - I'm not sure who is more excited about this, me or him!
He has been pee trained for over four months and tells us when he needs to poop, but is still fearful of pooping in the toilet (grrr). We have been working on that one since January and are really ready for it to pass, but trying to let him do it at his own pace.
He still goes to bed at 7pm and wakes around 6:30am everyday. He is a rule follower and still stays in bed even when he is awake (yay). However, he loves to loudly sing "twinkle twinkle little star" at the top of his lungs to let me know he's ready to get up.
Hunter is talking a lot now and we can have conversations, which has changed our relationship a lot! Instead of most of our interactions being one-way, he gets to have a lot more say in what we do, how we do it, etc. I have to say I am enjoying it! Now that we have a three year old and an 18 month old, I realize how much easier it is when they can talk. Wyatt is struggling to convey his needs right now and I can't wait until he can talk more as he gets older.
These days Hunter is tracing his A, B, C's, building magnatiles (he is really good!), getting dressed with minimal assistance, making his bed, throwing away his trash, putting his dirty dishes in the sink, helping me bake muffins, putting his dirty clothes in the laundry, putting toys away, and helping Wyatt put his shoes on. It's pretty amazing what toddlers are capable of doing at a young age if you can put up with the snails pace and messiness of it all. Some days are more challenging than others and he doesn't always get it done, but we try.
For Hunter's birthday morning we took him to Crema for a special breakfast treat. He chose the biggest cinnamon roll and we sang him happy birthday. On Friday, we brought cupcakes to Dianas and she did a special party for him with all the kids - it was so cute! Saturday night we had our families over for pizza and cake and it was perfect for a three year old.
Thank you Hunter for making me a mom and for being the sweet boy that you are! This is going to be the hardest year yet with a new baby brother on the way and Wyatt turning two, but I have no doubt you will be a great example to your little brothers - love you!

The Sweetest Sicky and Other Hunter-isms

Can we just talk about how sweet Hunter has been recently? He has been sick - terrible fever, sweats, chills, hardly sleeping, and a cough. It is so sad! But throughout this week of sickness, he has been so polite and sweet. As much as I hate seeing him sick (and being stuck inside watching cartoons all day), I am loving his attitude.

For my own memory, I have to document these things, especially since age three is approaching rapidly and I may need this for my sanity.

-Hunter asks me to lay in bed with him before his nap/bedtime to read the same two books: Ten Apples Up on Top and Brown Bear, Brown Bear.
-He almost always says thank you. This is big for me since I feel like I push "please" and "thank you's" on both kids a million times a day. Makes me feel good to hear thank you from my two year old, even when I am not expecting it.
-He is obsessed with the measuring tape right now and takes it with him everywhere. He took it to the dentist office so he could show the doctor his "nammers" (numbers). He asks me to help him measure everything: his toe, his foot, Cooper, etc. It's so sweet.
-When he doesn't want to do something, he says "no thank you mommy, not right now/I'm not ready yet." It's so cute I have a hard time arguing with him.
-The way he asks to wear his "undies"
-Through all the snot and coughing he still manages to tell him how much he loves me.
-Hunter emphasizes the "s" at the end of words. "Yeah-S, mommy"  -- Robert and I laugh in silent, as it is hilarious.
Sappy, but I don't want to forget these moments.

First Dentist Appointment

Hunter had his very first dental appointment today. Happy to report we are cavity free! We recently bought him a power toothbrush, which he loves, and that has made brushing a lot of fun around here. He loves pushing the on/off button and and putting the toothpaste on.
We celebrated with a thrifty scoop of ice cream (tradition!) and came home for naps.
Nice job, Hunter!

Alice in Wonderland

I took Hunter on a mommy/son date to see Alice in Wonderland in Carmel with my sisters and their kids - Hunter loved it! I was nervous about him sitting still and being quiet for that length of time, but he didn't take his eyes off of the stage and he danced in his seat. He told me his favorite part of the play was the lights - so cute! I will definitely be taking him again :)

Adventures in potty training

We are officially potty training...dun, dun, dun.
We introduced the potty in August (very casually), but we weren't really consistent until the last couple of weeks. It's hard because Hunter is at daycare the majority of the time, and while she works with him on the potty, he doesn't go diaper free 100% (which I believe is the fastest way to train). On the weekends he is diaper free most of the time, minus naps and car rides.
He is doing really well! We are using a small treat for every time he goes and so far we have only had two accidents.
I was dreading this process so bad, but it turns out it has not been too horrible yet.

Soccer

Hunter had his first day of soccer on Saturday. It was so cute to see the kids running around with their little shin guards on! It was really hot outside and he didn't last long, but hopefully as the weather cools down he will enjoy it more.

Two year welllness check - Hunter

Hunter had his two year wellness checkup this morning and he did great! He was patient and hardly cried while getting his shots - I was impressed. His 18 month checkup was a disaster, so I wasn't quite sure how today would go. It turns out Hunter is a string bean; tall and skinny, like his dad.

Weight: 26lbs (22nd percentile)
Height: 2' 11" (78th percentile)
Head: 48.5 cm (50th percentile)

His pediatrician was impressed with his language development and said he is beating all of his milestones - whoohoo! She said most kids start potty training between 2 and 3 years old, so I guess it's time to get on the potty training wagon (cringe).
