13 Weeks

How far along? 13 weeks
Size: Peach
Maternity clothes? I've worn my maternity pants a couple times (so comfy), but other than that just normal clothes. I wear longer, looser tops with a belly band over my skinny jeans to work and that works great.
Symptoms:
No matter how much water I drink, my skin is very dry. My Clarisonic + coconut oil has been an awesome combo for treating it.
Sleep: Not as blissful as it's been in past weeks - sad!. It's not horrible, but I wake up a few times throughout the night rather than sleeping for 10 hours straight. Rough life over here.

Best moment this week:
Entering the second trimester. Oh! Discovering chocolate chip cookie in a cup. Thank you Pinterest.

Worst moment of the week: Loosing my awesome sleep streak. Something to get used to since I imagine it's not going to get any better.
Have you told family and friends: Yes - and I told my boss on Thursday :)

Miss anything? Being tidy. I like to keep our home clean and orderly, but lately I have been a slacker. Sorry Robert!

Movement: Not yet

Food cravings: Nothing in particular. I have been eating a lot more fruit than usual - it's easier to throw an apple and/or banana in my purse and go.
Oh, and I had my first midnight snack. I woke up at 3am on Wednesday starving - so I ate a banana in the kitchen with my eyes closed and then crawled back into bed. Success.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Not really, though coffee isn't as delicious as it used to be.

Have you started to show yet: Yes, but when wearing loose tops at work no one would know. Still depends on the time of day too. I am pretty small in the mornings and bigger in the evenings.

Off to a baby shower!
My Gender prediction: Boy!
Labor signs: No
Belly Button in or out? In

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy

Looking forward to: Registering. After test driving strollers with Robert, I am excited about choosing registry items. I haven't really been excited up until now because it's really overwhelming, but thanks to my amazing sisters, I think it will be fun. I am so lucky they have kids and they are able to offer me advice on different products. Thank you seesters <3

Baby A, size of a peach!

What is the baby up to?
The fetus is now 3 inches long and weighs about an ounce. The baby's unique fingerprints are already in place. The muscles lengthen and become organized. The nose and chin are well defined and the baby can open and close its mouth (nom nom). You can't feel it yet, but your baby can move in a jerky fashion, flexing the arms and kicking the legs.

NT Scan

We had our NT scan on Tuesday (tests for Down Syndrome, Trisomy13 and Trisomy18) which was exciting and nerve-wracking. Good news is the baby looks active and healthy <measuring ahead at 13 weeks, heartbeat at 169bpm> with no signs of birth defects.
Love
Think they printed out enough photos for us?
We got to see several different angles of the baby - including the brain chambers (weird), arms, legs, belly, butt, etc. This appointment was fun because the ultrasound lasted for about 30 minutes, so we had a lot of time to watch the baby do his thing in there!

The next ultrasound around 20 weeks will confirm the sex :)

Happy Birthday, Mommy!

We weren't able to be home this past weekend for my mom's birthday, but I know Allison and Amy spoiled her with good food, cupcakes, and cake!
(Nov. 12')
Happy Birthday, Mommy! Hope you had a great weekend of celebrations.
Love you so much xoxo

12 Weeks

How far along? 12 weeks
Size: Lime!
Maternity clothes? I bought two pairs of maternity pants for work, but haven't purchased anything else. All of my regular pants still fit (some I use a hair tie for comfort) so that's good. Okay, maternity pants are so comfortable...it's like wearing yoga pants, but I look professional. I may never want to go back to normal skinny jeans.
Symptoms:
Nothing besides being tired
Sleep: Still awesome thanks to my Snoogle. I don't think you have to be pregnant to enjoy that pillow :)

Best moment this week:
Sending out announcements to friends and family

Worst moment of the week: Not being able to kick this cold I've had for a week and a half. Also, finishing Sons of Anarchy. Robert and I aren't sure what to do with our lives anymore.
Have you told family and friends: Yes. Work still doesn't know yet.

Miss anything? Not sneezing and blowing my nose every five minutes.

Movement: Nope

Food cravings: No, but I am still eating chocolate chips after dinner. I've created a bad habit, oops.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Still spinach salad. I've taken a spinach salad to work everyday this week and its come right back home with me.

Have you started to show yet: Yes, but it changes daily - last Sunday I woke up and it had vanished. By Monday we were back in business.

Lime baby
My Gender prediction:  Boy! I am going to laugh if the doctor says it's a girl. We call it a he all the time (better than calling him "it")
Labor signs: No
Belly Button in or out? In

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy

Looking forward to: NT scan next week. Any chance to see the baby is something to look forward too!

Baby A, size of a lime!
What's the baby up to?
Baby now has a chin and a nose and a facial profile. Vocal chords are complete, and the baby can and does sometimes cry silently (how sad!). The brain is fully formed, and the baby can also feel pain. The fetus may even suck his thumb (aww).
The eyelids now cover the eyes, and will remain shut until the seventh month to protect the delicate optical nerve fibers. The hair is on the head and the fingers and toes have developed soft nails. The kidneys are developed and begin to secrete urine.

11 Weeks

How far along? 11 weeks 1 day
Size: Fig (some sites say a lime)
Maternity clothes? Not yet
Symptoms:
Besides being pretty tired at the end of the day, most of my symptoms are fading. Doctor said this is normal as the first trimester ends.

Sleep: Great and I am getting a lot of it. Still falling asleep around 9-9:30 every night.
Best moment this week:
Monthly date night at Paxti's - best deep dish pizza around. Robert is loving this new reoccurring date.
Worst moment of the week: Hmm, nothing I can think of.

Have you told family and friends: Just immediate family.

Miss anything? My energy - it should be coming back soon.

Movement: I can't feel it yet, but I know its moving in there! I saw some sweet dance moves on the ultrasound.

Food cravings: Still sweets after dinner. Chocolate chips, frozen yogurt, and whirley pop popcorn do the job.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Having a hard time with spinach salads, but I try to eat them anyway since they are healthy. If I can't do it I just blend up a green juice - I get more spinach that way anyway so it's a win-win.
Have you started to show yet: Yep, a little bit - but still concealing at work. I am going to grab a few loose fitting shirts this weekend for the next couple of weeks since my current tops are fitting funny.

Whole fam bam
My Gender prediction:  Boy!
Labor signs: Nope
Belly Button in or out? In

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy

Looking forward to: 2nd trimester!
Baby A, size of a fig!
What is the baby up to?
  • The fetus is about 1.5 inches in size.
  • The fingers and toes have completely separated.
  • The taste buds are starting to develop.
  • Baby has tooth buds, the beginning of the complete set of 20 milk teeth.
  • Baby can swallow and stick out his or her tongue.
  • Whole body except tongue is sensitive to touch.
  • Cartilage calcifying to become bone.
  • If it is a boy, the testicles are starting to produce the testosterone hormone

Ultrasound #3

Today we met our new doctor who will be delivering the baby. We came to the appointment with lots of questions for him to make sure he was a good fit and it turns out that we both really like him.
We also got to see Baby A - best part of the appointment :)
Dancing upside down
The doctor started the ultrasound and immediately pointed out the baby dancing like a maniac. It was so cool! I didn't realize the baby was moving so much at this point in the pregnancy. He also pointed out all of the baby's fingers, toes, legs, arms, and butt (the photo above isn't great quality, so you can't see much besides the shape of the baby).

Then, he clicked a button and we could hear the heart beating - we didn't even know what to say - we just looked at each other with our jaws dropped. He said the heartbeat was 178 bpm which was great (and mentioned the baby was super active so next time it may not be that high). Baby is measuring a day ahead again, so the new due date is August 2nd.
Still, a few hours later I am shocked that there has been so much development in such a short amount of time. I told Robert when we walked out that I feel like I left the baby in the office because it's hard to believe what we had just seen was in my belly!

I am glad we were spoiled with these ultrasounds because we will only get to see the baby about three more times until I give birth: 13ish weeks, 20ish weeks, and 32ish weeks. The rest of our appointments will be listening to the baby's heartbeat and blood tests/urine samples for me.

Off to celebrate with Robert's favorite dinner - homemade pizza!

Hi from Kenya. Wearing a onesie.

10 Weeks

How far along? 10 weeks 1 day
Size: Kumquat <-- what is that?
Maternity clothes? Nope
Symptoms:
Yesterday and today I have felt a lot better so I am hoping 10 weeks is my magic number for the end of morning sickness.
Sleep: Great - except yesterday when I woke up at 3am. First night I slept without my Snoogle so I hope that's why.

Best moment this week:
Our mini getaway to Bodega Bay. My masseuse told me I should get massages regularly throughout my pregnancy - don't mind if I do. Rob and I both agreed that we need to do trips like that more often.

Early morning view from our porch - so peaceful up there
Worst moment of the week: Feeling crappy. It's nice to know I am having symptoms because of the baby, but I'd like to get back to my normal cleaning, cooking, exercising schedule. Sorry Robert!
Driving Highway 1 at 9 weeks pregnant - lots of ginger was consumed.
Have you told family and friends: Just immediate family.
Miss anything?
I missed wine during the complimentary wine and cheese hour on NYE, but then I got over it. So, nope!
Movement: Nope

Food cravings: Nothing in particular.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Coffee is hit or miss these days. Sad.

Have you started to show yet:  Sometimes
you can tell when I am wearing tight clothes. The hairtie trick is necessary on most of my skinny jeans.

Yoga-bound
My Gender prediction: I still think it's a boy.
Labor signs: Nope
Belly Button in or out? In

Wedding rings on or off? On, but still loose - strange.

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy - and so, so excited. Sometimes when Robert and I are winding down for the day I get an overwhelming feeling of thankfulness. I am thankful that I am pregnant and I am thankful to have Robert as my partner through all of this. He has always been a supportive husband, but even more so during the last few weeks when I haven't been able to do much besides go to work and shower (and whine about being nauseous). I have no doubt he will be an even better dad. Love you Robert!

Looking forward to: Meeting our new doctor on Monday and seeing baby A. Also looking forward to getting my yoga on this weekend.
Baby A, size of a kumquat
