Adventures in potty training II

I had not planned to potty train Wyatt yet, but a couple of weeks ago I had about three diapers left and I had no plans to leave the house that day, so why not?
I pulled out the baby potty, told Wyatt he would get chocolate chips for peeing, and, voila - he peed! Since that day he's been peeing like a champion. He even wanted to stand up using the big toilet like Hunter, so we ditched the baby potty. Fine by me! I think he has had a total of three accidents (near the beginning) and is nap and night time trained.

I can hardly believe it.
This process was different with Hunter for a few reasons. Hunter was in daycare, so the training was really inconsistent. Hunter and Wyatt are motivated by different things. Wyatt would kill for some chocolate chips, Hunter not so much. I am more experienced than I was the first time around! Once I took the diapers away, I promised myself not to give in which I think helped Wyatt. Once he picked out his big boy undies, we totally ditched the diapers.

Thank you Wyatt for being such a confident and motivated little man.

18 Months Old - Wyatt

Wild man Wyatt is 18 months old, and wow, he is busy! Wyatt is practically running and climbing on everything, talks a ton, and is rarely calm or still. He is what I expected a two year old boy to be like, except, Hunter was never wild or as physical.
While he is wild and crazy, Wyatt is also a major mamas boy and loves to be held with his blanket. He will sit still for soft tickles on his back and loves to cuddle with me on the couch for brief periods of time, but it does not last long.
Wyatt is sleeping from 7pm-6:30am (same as Hunter), with a nap from 12:30-3:30pm everyday. He has no problem crashing in bed, which is awesome for us. As long as he has his blanket, he is happy.
He weighs 29lbs, wears 2T clothing, and size 6 or 6.5 shoes. He is much bigger than Hunter was at this age (about 6lbs heavier and a clothing size bigger) and the more they grow the more I see the differences in their body types. Hunter is long and lean and Wyatt is built like a bear. He is extremely strong and has a lot more muscle on his body than Hunter does.
Wyatt has 12 teeth with his 13th popping through and loves to brush with his toothbrush.
His favorite word right now is NO, but he has a big vocabulary for an 18 month old and can say a lot. I am blown away by the sentences that come out of his mouth. Sometimes his frustration gets in the way and instead of using his words, he screams. We are working on that :)
He will eat almost anything, all the time. The boy is a machine and puts back food like it is his job. I am happy he has an appetite and love to watch him eat - he is so happy!
Wyatt, you surprise me every day with your big personality and bring me so much happiness. You are a huge teddy bear and I love how you love me. I can't wait to watch you grow and see what you will do because I know it will be something big.

Operation: take away pacifier

Wyatt has a serious love affair with his white blanket and his pacifier. He is adorably comforted by both of them when he is in pain, frustrated, or just tired. Bedtime is really easy - as soon as he lays down with his blanket and pacifier he has a huge smile on his face and we never hear a peep from him.

At 16 months old Robert and I decided it was time to take the pacifier away. Now that he is walking around and growing into a toddler, I think he is capable of soothing himself and I really do not want him dependent on the pacifier when he is going through tantrums.
We decided to let him have the pacifier during sleep time, as he is so addicted to it I wanted to tackle the daytime first.

Day one pretty much looked like this:
theeeeee saddest face ever

He was soooo miserable (and so were we). He is also on meds for a double ear infection and has a molar popping through (didn't realize until after the fact), so I am not sure all the screaming was just because of the pacifier..

Day two looked like this:

He was a different child! Happy and didn't cry once for the pacifier, thank goodness. He also napped without a peep, which was a very pleasant surprise.
As I am typing, he is sleeping soundly and went down just like any other night. Hooray for mission accomplished in less than 48 hours!

Wyatt's Words at 16 Months

Wyatt's vocabulary is exploding and it seems like he has new words and/or phrases on a daily basis. I am not sure if it is the ages or if it is because they are only hearing English every day now, but English has improved a lot for both Wyatt and Hunter the last couple of months.

I was looking back at Hunter's milestones at this age and he had a fraction of the words Wyatt has! It is so interesting to watch the kids grow and see the similarities and differences. They both make me so proud.

Here are Wyatt's words so far (and I know I am missing some, but I don't write them down daily, so this is just from my memory)...
Mama, dada, dog, ruff ruff, cat, meow, thank you, I love you, rawr (lion/bear), boat, you're welcome, mickey mouse, bye bye, uh oh, I dropped it, bath, mmmm, night night, window, vroom vroom, no, no, no, flower, nose (and can point to it), eyes (and can point to them), feet, opa, oma, more, blanket, car, paci, and muuuaaaahhhh.

I am happy that he is starting to talk more and hope having words will help him communicate more effectively with us during the toddler years.

Wild Man

This guy is such a KID lately. He is walking everywhere, getting a toddler 'tude, and not a baby anymore. He is seriously makes me laugh a million times a day. Such.a.boy.

Wyatt walks!

And now he walks! On May 9th, right after I posted about his 15 month check up, Wyatt started walking. I am so curious to see how this wild one does on his two feet and imagine life is about to get even crazier.

Go Wyatt!!

15 months- Wyatt

On May 2nd Wyatt turned 15 months old. We took him to his 15 months wellness check up and here are his stats:

Weight: borderline 26lbs (86%)
Height: 32.5" (91%)
Head: 18.5cm (55%)

Likes: tackling his brother, knocking things over, his paci, fooooood...all the food, sleep + naps, his blanket..it's his baby, stroller walks, screeching, and climbing on everything.
Dislikes: diaper changes, getting splashed in the face in the bath, being ignored, and being hungry.
Wyatt is allllmost walking. He is trying so hard and can take steps unassisted, but isn't quite independent yet. He can crawl super fast and I can tell this is still his preferred mode of transportation, but his motivation to walk is strong. He is a top heavy guy, so getting his balance has been a struggle for him.
Wyatt has 10 teeth and he is popping molars right now (poor guy). His appetite is still strong and he will eat pretty much anything (aside from broccoli, no thanks). He is weaning off of his morning nap. I notice if he takes his morning nap, it's much harder for him to go down in the afternoon. Depending on the day he will still get the morning nap - it just depends what we are doing that day.
He is waving, blowing kisses, and clapping his hands on demand - so cute.
He talks a ton! Words include mama, dada, dog, window, I love you, thank you, down, all done, and mmmm. Also, a lot of screaming and babbling. This boy is loud.

Wyatt we love your always expressive faces and loud personality. You keep us on our feet and make us sweat a little, but we love you so much <3

14 Months - Wyatt

My meatball is 14 months old! He is such a lovey guy and so different from Hunter these days. I see the resemblance of them, but am seeing more differences as they get older.
Wyatt has the sweetest face, eyes, THIGHS, and hugs. He is intense and impulsive. He knows what he wants and he goes for it - food, toys, Hunter, etc. - when he wants it he gets it! There is something about him that has me constantly saying "aww" and giving him huge kisses on his fat cheeks. He is just so delicious.

-Wearing 18 months-2T (the boys basically share everything, except shoes)
-Weighs 26-27lbs
-Cruising like a maniac and has started standing unassisted - no walking yet though
-Likes: food, being held, sleeping, taking Hunter's toys, cruising, climbing, and being naked
-Dislikes: diaper changes, car seat sometimes, seeing someone's food and not getting a taste

Wyatt is an unpacker, he likes to take everything out of drawers, boxes, etc. (i.e. he was not helpful during the packing process!). He is a daredevil and loves to climb. He climbs the couch, ottoman, rocking chair, etc. Soon he will be the child that climbs the entertainment center and knocks over the tv.
In short, Wyatt will be the scariest toddler, but we love him. He brings us so much joy and makes me want a million little boys.

O-N-E - Wyatt

Well this year sure flew by fast - Happy birthday baby boy Wyatt! You have stolen my heart and are a sweet and demanding little guy.
Going from one to two babies was much harder than anticipated, especially with your reflux, but after some adjusting, we can't imagine life without you.
Things about you:
1. You are so sweet - your smile and eyes melt me.
2. You are also very demanding - when you want something or are frustrated, we all know it (I am sure the neighbors love us).
3. You love your naps and sleep in general - thank you for that.
4. You definitely prefer mama - thank you for that.
5. You have 7 teeth (an 8th popping through) and use them well -
big eater and a healthy appetite.
6. You are patient with your big brother even though he steals all your toys, pushes you down, and sits on your face. I have a feeling payback is coming soon...
Weight: 23lbs?
Length: TBD

Love you Wywy and can't wait to watch you grow another year!

Ten Months Old - Wyatt

Double digits!
Wyatt is less baby-like every day and full of personality. He is babbling like crazy and gets around the house fast.
Likes: eating, jumping in the johnny jumper, his paci, standing/cruising the outside of the ottoman, funny faces and voices, putting everything in his mouth, and being tickled.
Dislikes: staying in one place too long, being hungry, losing his paci, getting dressed.
Teeth: 6
Weight: 22.5lbs
Size: 12 months
Sleep: 7pm-5:45/6am (if we give him his paci sometimes he'll sleep in until 6:45am). Naps twice a day - 8-10am, 12:30-3ishPM. Sometimes longer. Yesterday he napped from 1-4pm!
Wyatt has a very healthy appetite and usually eats more than Hunter during mealtime. The other day for breakfast he ate two eggs, a whole banana, black beans, cheerios, and 8oz of milk. For lunch he ate a whole pb&j sandwich. For dinner he ate quinoa, peas, black beans, raspberries, and milk. I don't know how he possibly eats this much!
Words: yeah, yeah, yeah! Dadda, mamma, and cat
Wyatt you are unpredictable and such a mamas boy. You love playing with your bro and stealing his toys (which he hates).
Love you so much!

Nine Months Old - Wyatt

Our Wywy is 9 months old! This past month has been different.
We moved Wyatt into Hunter's room a few weeks ago and it was going really well, however, for the past week Wyatt has been struggling around 4am. I keep telling myself he is teething, but it's getting to the point where I think he may be sleep regressing. Usually I wait these things out and after 3-4 days it passes, but after a week and a half I am getting exhausted and frustrated.
Hunter has slept through the crying since we merged rooms, but last night he was chatting in his crib from 1:45am-5:30am (we got him up for good). I felt so bad that Hunter woke up, so tonight we put Wywy back in the man cave. I think Wyatt is teething, so if we can pop that tooth, re-sleep train through the night, and then move him back into Hunter's room we will be ok.
Wyatt is crawling everywhere, demands to feed himself (don't take away his spoon!), loves his toy shovel, he is testing out his pipes (that boy can SCREAM), eating everything, and is very grabby. Overall he is demanding! Way different from Hunter. At the same time, when he laughs and smiles, he is so sweet and loving.
We have his wellness check on Thursday morning and I will know his length and weight - I do know he is huge and weighs way more than Hunter did at 12 months, haha.
Pop that tooth Wywy!

Eight Months Old - Wyatt

Yesterday Wyatt turned eight months old! I can hardly believe it. He is so interactive, babbling up a storm, and starting to take an interest in whatever Hunter is up to.
Likes: eating, crawling, rolling, jumping in the Johnny Jumper, his pacifier.
Dislikes: being hungry, being in one spot for too long.
Weight: heavy
Milestones: crawling! He and Hunter met this milestone to the day - it's pretty neat to compare them, as so far they have met milestones at the same exact time.
Wyatt did not care too much for purees, so I started feeding him whatever Hunter was eating and it is going great. I am amazed at how much food he can pack down (last night he had avocado toast, strawberries, bananas, black beans, and broccoli). It's really nice that I only have to prepare one meal for both of them and that I don't have to spoon feed him - frees up my hands so I can cook dinner for Robert and me. Also today both boys ate PB&J's, crackers, and fruit for lunch..so easy.
In the mornings Wyatt babbles a ton: gagaga, babababa, dadadada, etc.
Lastly, he is sleeping through the night pretty consistently - whoohoo! He was still waking up around 3am for the longest time, but now he usually makes it until 6ish. Sometimes he will wake and I will pop his paci in his mouth and he is back to sleep. This kid lovvvves his pacifier.
I can't believe he is on his way to ONE :( Time is going too fast.

Seven Months - Wyatt

Wyatt is seven months old. He is eating some solids, but we aren't as consistent as we were with Hunter. By the time I get Hunters food ready and feed him, it's close to bedtime so sometimes Wyatt just sticks with his milk. Second child problems.

He is rolling both ways, sitting like a champ, loving his johnny jumper, stands while holding onto something, has two teeth, wakes up once a night (going to try and kick that habit soon), starting to rock on all fours, loves peaches and berries, and has the loudest screech/cry. He has started "talking" more and occasionally we hear him babble "mamama" and "dadada". I think it's a total fluke, but it's fun to hear.

Weight: 19.5lbs
Size: 9-12 months
(he is wearing shorts that Hunter can still fit into!)

Wyatt is so sweet when he is happy. His grin is huge and he has the funniest laugh. He is also a very sensitive guy. When he gets upset, he is verrrrry upset. This is different than our experience with Hunter, who was a little more laid back. Wyatt is more extreme, both when happy and upset. He loves to be held and overall is more snugly than Hunter was at this age - I am not complaining! I just wish I had more arms so I could hold him for longer periods of time, but it's hard when you have two little ones that need you at the same time.
Wyatt and Hunter are interacting more and more lately and it is so fun to watch. I don't want to wish away the baby years, but I am really excited to see their relationship develop as Wyatt gets older!

Six Months - Wyatt

How is this baby boy already halfway to one? Seems crazy to me.
Wyatt is a sweet little (big) guy and he fits right in with our family. He still looks like a baby Hunter to me and I am always curious to see if they will look alike when they are older. He is very strong and has a mean grip. He is also extremely sturdy..his legs, feet, trunk are all very solid.
Loves: jumping in the johnny jumper, giggling, planking, scooting backwards, his pacifier, eating, napping, when we pretend to eat his belly (he giggles so hard), diaper changes, his swing
Dislikes: being hungry, dirty diapers, being in one place for too long
Weight: 18.5lbs (55th percentile)
Length: 90th percentile
We are at such a sweet spot in our lives right now and I am feeling so lucky these days. Hunter is really funny with all of his talking/energy and Wyatt is at my favorite baby age (giggly and mostly immobile).

First tooth!

I got my first tooth at 5.5 months (7/18/2015)!
