30 Weeks

How far along? 30 weeks - only 10 more weeks to go, wow!
Size: Head of cabbage (about 3lbs,16 inches long)
Maternity clothes? I left work and drove straight to the mall at 9am yesterday because I was so uncomfortable. I literally wore a pair of maternity jeans and top out of the store and drove straight back to work! I also ordered a few things online last week that just arrived.
Symptoms:
I feel much better this week and I am attributing it to going to yoga. It seems to help alleviate my back pain and round ligament pain - plus it is so relaxing! I am starting to feel a lot more pressure and have noticed some swelling by the end of the day. Moving around is difficult - sometimes I sit on the floor because it's easier than getting up from the couch.
Sleep: Much better this week. I slept through two nights, woot woot!

Best moment this week:
Getting updated puppy photos - I love getting updates from the breeder. He looks so different then he did just a month ago. We purchased all of the puppy essentials and we are ready for our furry guy to arrive :)

Last Saturday we attended a friends' wedding, which was fun. It was a beautiful day out - perfect for a park ceremony. At they reception they had a photo booth with props for all the guests to take photos and make a scrapbook page for the bride and groom - cool idea! Hard to believe Robert and I are going on year five of marriage and have a baby on the way. Time flies!
Worst moment of the week: Thinking I lost my Tiffany's ring that I wear on my right finger (not wedding ring). I was convinced I lost it and even had Robert take apart the kitchen sink. I ended up finding it in my workout clothes drawer...I had stuffed too many clothes in and it must have fallen off when I pulled my hand out. Oops.
Miss anything?  Painting my own toenails...I officially can't do it anymore without totally squishing the baby and killing my back. Guess I will have to get pedicures!

Movement: Lots of rolls and strong kicks this week. I
t's so cool to watch him take over and jolt around - he is much more real these days. My hope is that he is getting into the right position. Even though there is plenty of time for him to change positions, I am scared of the doctor telling me he is breech.
Food cravings: Watermelon, coconut popsicles, ice-cream

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope - but I am still getting random bouts of nausea.

Have you started to show yet: Yes and getting comments from people everywhere. I remember thinking I was totally showing in the first photo below at 10 weeks and feeling huge in the second photo at 20 weeks. It'll be fun to see how huge I really get at 40 weeks.

Labor signs: None
Belly Button in or out? Same - in but flat sometimes
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy!
Looking forward to: My baby shower next weekend! Also looking forward to the rocker arriving - it's the last piece of furniture to go in the nursery and I can't wait to see how it looks in there.

Baby A, size of a head of cabbage
What's the baby up to?
  • Baby measurements are 16 inches and weighs about 3 pounds.
  • The head is almost 3.5 inches in diameter.
  • The feet are nearly 2.5 inches long.
  • The baby controls its own body temperature.
He will gain about half a pound a week until week 38 (yikes). Baby is getting fatter and beginning to control its own body temperature. Baby continues to put on fat stores and the major weight gains will occur in the coming weeks. Eyebrows and eyelashes are fully developed, and hair on the head is getting thicker.
Hands are now fully formed and fingernails are growing. Can be seen on ultrasound scans grasping their other hand or feet, this is helping with nerve development. Eyelids are opening and closing, and will often make rapid eye movements - a sign they could be dreaming.

If you have not experienced any swelling yet, it is highly probable that you will, as approximately 40 to 75 percent of women will experience mild swelling related to pregnancy. It may feel like you are running out of room as your uterus grows up under your ribs (yes). However, baby, placenta and uterus will continue to get larger, you still have 10 weeks to go. The average weight gain during pregnancy is 25 to 35 pounds. About half of this weight is concentrated in the growth of the uterus, the placenta, the baby and in the volume of amniotic fluid. At this point, you should be gaining about a pound a week.

29 Weeks

How far along? 29 weeks
Size: Butternut Squash (2.5lbs and over 15 inches long)
Maternity clothes? Same as previous weeks. My non-maternity pants are not very comfortable, but I wear them anyway since I still have a pair that fit. My challenge this week was finding a dress in my closet to wear for a wedding tomorrow. Some of them were hilariously inappropriate when I tried them on for Robert.
Symptoms:
Round ligament pain, lower abdominal pressure, lower back pain, and nausea
. I wonder if he changed positions? Overall I have been pretty tired and dragging no matter how much I sleep. I think I will be cashing in my prenatal massage very soon.
Sleep: Eh, it's ok - depends on the night. When I wake up I am hurting so it's hard to go back.

Best moment this week:
We had a doctors appointment on Monday and heard the heartbeat - all is good! I will be seeing the doctor every two weeks now as we near closer to the due date.

Visiting several daycare's on our list. We found a few that we like and got on the waiting lists - here's to hoping we get into at least one of them. Happy to be checking more things off of my never ending to-do list.
Also, getting the crib mattress and covers - thank you Oma and Opa! The crib is looking much more complete now.
Worst moment of the week: Overall just feeling uncomfortable. I weighed in at the doctors office and am up 15lbs. I am moving slower these days and even simple tasks like buckling my shoes are becoming tiresome. Can I just wear flip flops to work?
Miss anything? Stomach sleeping - I am imagining an epic face plant once the baby is out.

Movement: I've been feeling more baby hiccups and lots of rolling around. I have to say my favorite move is when he props his bum up - I can cup it with my hand and it's so cute to imagine his position in there. I'm in love with him already.

Food cravings: Coconut popsicles and watermelon - so good!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nothing in particular, but I do get waves of nausea/dizziness every once in awhile. I was in Starbucks prior to our appointment on Monday and I suddenly felt like I was going to pass out (hot, clammy, dizzy). Such a gross feeling and immediately sent me into a panic since I was alone. Happy it passed!

Have you started to show yet: Yep. I love watching the shape of my stomach change depending on his position - when his bum is in the air it's the most noticeable since it looks like there is a cone on one side of my stomach, hah! Here is a bump comparison between weeks 23 and 29.

Labor signs: None
Belly Button in or out? Still in/flat and strange looking. Not sure that it will ever pop out.
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy - and emotional. I've had a few random moments that I feel like crying for no reason. I am perfectly happy but I get a lump in my throat and want to cry! Thank you hormones, I suppose.
Looking forward to: My baby shower! I am so excited to see everyone and to celebrate this baby boy. I am also looking forward to our 32 week appointment, since we will be getting an ultrasound. After that we don't get to see the baby until he is born! Our previous ultrasound was at 20 weeks, so there has been a lot of growth since the last time we saw him.

What's the baby up to?
  • Your baby now weighs about 2 and a half pound and is about 15 inches long from head to heel.
  • Brain is busy developing billions of neurons.
  • Baby's muscles and lungs are continuing to mature.
  • The fetus can taste and respond to pain.
His head is growing bigger to accommodate the brain, which is busy developing billions of neurons and his eyes can move in their sockets. As well as your baby's increasing sensitivity to changes in light, they may also be able to taste. Various studies show that your baby may indicate preferences or dislike for particular tastes at this stage (chocolate chips?).
Baby is also moving from side to side, but probably still is head up. In the next few weeks, they will move to the head down birthing position. At times you may feel as if baby is performing somersaults for an olympic gold medal (yes). Baby may be performing fewer movements because living conditions in the womb are becoming more cramped. The baby is still doing a lot of kicking and stretching. Some of your baby's kicks and punches may even take your breath away (yes).
Baby hears things better from the vibrations all around, and can now distinguish real sounds and voices. At this stage baby eyes are almost always blue and can distinguish bright sunlight or artificial light.

28 Weeks (7 Months)

How far along? 28 weeks
Size: Chinese cabbage (weighing 2.2lbs and almost 15 inches long)
Maternity clothes? Thanks to dresses, I've put off shopping a little longer :)
Symptoms:
Overall I am just feeling big and tired. I am feeling a lot like I did in the first trimester in terms of exhaustion. Luckily the pain from last week has subsided for the most part, so I don't have much to complain about!
Sleep: Aside from Kenya partying during the night this week, sleep has been okay. I am waking up several times throughout the night - but when I am sleeping, I am sleeping well.

Best moment this week:
We toured a couple of daycare facilities, organized my maternity leave, and had a fun night at the Giants game (probably our last as a twosome)! We still have several more daycare's to visit, but I am happy we got a head-start on this since a lot of places have waiting lists and each place seems to offer something different.

Oh! And finding out the Smith's are moving to Monterey - so happy they will be closer and very proud of Nick on the new job!
Worst moment of the week: I can't think of anything!
Miss anything? Stomach sleeping. Flopping back and forth to either side is difficult and annoying at 2am. I wish I could see it on video because I'm sure it's a sexy sight to see :)

Movement: When I feel him, he is really strong! I still think he is transverse, although it did feel like he was flipping around while I was in yoga the other day so I don't know. I am hoping the doctor can give me an idea of his position at our appointment on Monday.

Food cravings:  Quinoa, eggs, mixed greens (yay), raw tomatoes (so weird). We skipped our last Paxti's date and I haven't had any interest in making it up. Since I feel so big and stuffed already, fatty food is not appealing right now.

Anything making you queasy or sick: No

Have you started to show yet: Growing out of a few maternity tops so layering is a must. It's weird saying I am seven months pregnant - that number seemed like it was so far away, not long ago.

Labor signs: None
Belly Button in or out? Still in but flattens out throughout the day - my scar is looking strange these days.
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy!
Looking forward to: Mother's Day this weekend and our appointment on Monday! Love hearing that heartbeat.

What's the baby up to?
  • He has his own regular intervals for sleeping and being awake.
  • 2.2 pounds weight and is 14.8 inches in length from head to heel.
  • His feet are just over 2 inches (5.5cm) long.
  • Hair on his head is now clearly visible.
  • His milk teeth have developed under the gums.
  • His eyes are starting to move in their sockets.
Brain waves show rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, which means your baby may be dreaming. Eyelids are opening. Eye color may change within the first six months of life especially if your baby's eyes are blue or gray-blue at birth. Remember to talk to your baby often; reading stories, singing songs has been seen to slow the baby's heart rate. He or she can recognize your voice now and will often calm to it later after birth.
During this time of your pregnancy, your belly will grow about half an inch (1cm) each week.
Branches of lungs are quite developed now, so there is a good chance that baby would survive if born prematurely now. If your baby is born this week, the chances of survival is now at least 90 percent.

Weekend Fun

We had a nice weekend with my family - Amy, Haley, and Rowen came up on Saturday afternoon just in time for pool, BBQ, and baseball. Sunday we met up with the rest of the family (we missed you Smith's!) for a minor league game supporting pony baseball. Thanks for coming up Amy and fam - loved having you three!
Kenya got lots of lovin'!

27 Weeks

How far along? 27 weeks - hello third trimester!
Size: Weighs almost 2lbs (like a head of cauliflower)
Maternity clothes? I need them! I pretty much outgrew my white maternity skinnies (sad) and need to buy some essentials so I can get through the last few months. I never know what to buy when I go shopping because my body is changing, but I need to bite the bullet and just get some stuff.
One of our views in Cabo - beautiful!
Symptoms: Overall I feel pretty good, although I am still feeling round ligament pain, which can be pretty uncomfortable. I am also experiencing Braxton Hicks maybe 4-5 times per day. My doctor assured me they are normal and to take it easy.
Sleep: For the most part it's really good. I had a bad (early) morning on Tuesday and was up from 1:30am until it was time to go to work. I was having a lot of pain in addition to Braxton Hicks which was unsettling.

Best moment this week:
Being on vacation and finalizing flight plans for our little furry guy.

Almost five weeks old
Worst moment of the week: Going back to work.
Miss anything? In Cabo I was craving a margarita :)

Movement: He is a crazy baby in there. I think he might be transverse because I am feeling him on both sides of my belly. He is taking up more room now and I am feeling movement a lot higher than I was before.

Food cravings: Quinoa, eggs, apples, frozen yogurt

Anything making you queasy or sick: No

Have you started to show yet: Yep

Labor signs: No - although on Monday night I really wasn't sure!
Belly Button in or out? Innie-flatty
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy!
Looking forward to: A lot - it seems we have something planned for pretty much every weekend until the baby comes - yikes. In the meantime, I am looking forward to our next OB appointment (I want to know baby's position), a wedding, and my baby shower! In between all of the fun, I am looking forward to finishing the nursery and sleeping as much as possible :)

Baby A, weighs about the size of a head of cauliflower

What's the baby up to?
  • The fetus weighs almost 2 pounds now and is about 14.5 inches long.
  • The head is over 2.5 inches in diameter.
  • Your baby's hearing continues to develop.
  • The eyes can blink, open and close.
Welcome to the third trimester. You have made it 2/3 of the way through. It may be hard to believe, but your baby now appears much like he will look like at birth. Baby now has eyebrows and eyelashes and hair is growing everyday. The muscle tone is improving and his body is getting plumper.
The retina at the back of your baby's eyes is beginning to develop. Those beautiful baby eyes can open now, and the baby will notice and may turn his or her head if you shine a flashlight against your belly.
At 27 weeks, your baby's length will have tripled or quadrupled from the 14 week mark. If your baby is born this week, the chances of survival is now at least 80 percent.
